In the fall of 1999 I met with a fellow pastor to talk about the hope of one-day starting a new kind of church in Tacoma. We talked that fall afternoon about hoping to one day be a part of a church that would reach our generation.
We shared the same dreams of a church that spoke the "language" of our generation, a church that would be relevant to the culture, and a church that would keep the main thing, the main thing.
We shared hopes of a church that would be committed to the city, multi-cultural, creative, powerful, intimate, and yet caring for the hurting here and around the world.
Yet the simplest and most profound vision we shared then and now is "we want to be a part of a church that we like!"
One thing that we have seen since that 1999 afternoon is that God is moving in people's lives - changing hearts and lives to worship and honor Him.
The simple vision for Discovery Community Church is that I and every other person connected in this family could wake up each morning with the excitement and anticipation of encountering God, and each night go to sleep with the satisfaction that we did and somebody else did through us!
You are invited to continue writing the story of God's work in and through Discovery Community Church.
