Easter 2025

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Over 2000 years ago, the world woke up to an empty tomb. Nothing has ever been the same.

Come celebrate with us!

Join us for worship and a fun Easter party at either 9:00 or 11:00 at Lincoln High School in Tacoma! You'll experience...

  • A gathering with regular, real people just like you
  • A message of hope found in Jesus
  • An interactive, experiential Easter party for all ages — including an all-ages journey through the Resurrection story
  • Good coffee and flavorful treats from our friends in the International District (like egg rolls and spring rolls from Vien Dong!)

FAQs

We're so excited for you to be part of the celebration. If you're joining us for Easter for the first time, welcome! We've compiled some common questions to help you prepare for the morning.

Is Discovery Community Church a new church?

We're certainly not new to Tacoma — our first-ever service was Easter Sunday 2001! But over the years, we have gathered for worship in numerous locations across the city, so you may have come across us in different places and contexts. We have been meeting at Lincoln High School since fall of 2021. More on that below.

What are Discovery's beliefs?

That question could take a lifetime to answer properly! But it's also quite simple. Here are the beliefs we hold to be foundational to the church.

Why do you meet in a high school?

Discovery is a mobile church, which means we meet in buildings we don't own. In the past we've met in movie theaters, middle schools and, interestingly, other churches. We planned it that way! We want our resources to be filtered as effectively and efficiently as possible into our local and global community, instead of toward a mortgage or building maintenance. We find this approach frees us up to better serve the Lincoln District, the Eastside, and the rest of the specific part of Tacoma where we've been called to love people in Jesus' name.

Easter services are 9:00 and 11:00. Are those your normal service times during the rest of the year?

We typically meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM. We offer both in-person and online service options. Attendance-wise, we have about 175 adults and children that attend in-person and another 100 or so online. Our livestream is a great way for people to still join us on Sunday even if they're sick, out of town, or physically unable to attend in-person.

What about the Easter service itself — what should I expect?

Worship services are about an hour and 15 minutes. We'll share some announcements, sing songs of worship to God, engage with Pastor Jon and his sermon (he absolutely LOVES engagement and energy!), and pray together.

Before or after the service, you can grab a snack and a hot beverage, chat with a new friend, and learn about what's next with Discovery and how you can be a part of it. We hope you'll take time to enjoy the Easter party, including flavorful treats from our International District neighbors, and a special all-ages Easter journey through the resurrection story.

What opportunities do you offer for children and teens to worship?

Every Sunday morning, we have ministry for our children as well.

We offer space in our worship auditorium for babies (birth - toddler) and their parents who need a quiet corner.

Disco Kids serves kiddos from 18 months old through fifth grade. Families can check in for Disco Kids classes right in the Rotunda — the open central area on the 2nd floor.

Disco Youth (6th - 12th grades) have their own meeting in a classroom during our regular worship services. On special occasions, we invite the youth to be part of the volunteer teams where they can learn and practice the joy of serving. In fact, many of the youth will be helping out with our Easter party.

We strongly recommend that you register your K-5th kids for Easter! Registration includes age-appropriate classes and kid-friendly Easter activities. Register each child according to their age group and preferred service time (9 or 11 AM), and we’ll hold a place for them.

Is your meeting space a challenge for people with limited mobility?

Lincoln High School is a beautiful historic building with a lot of vintage features, but the elevator system is not one of them! The school elevator was fully replaced and modernized in 2024. The elevator offers access from the entry landing directly to the worship auditorium landing on the 3rd floor, or to the Rotunda on the 2nd floor (hospitality/refreshments, Connection Point, restrooms, kids' and youth classes).

What if I have questions not answered here?

If you're interested in having some deeper conversation about Discovery — our story, our values, our heart for Tacoma, or anything else — we would absolutely love for you to join us for a Newcomers' Reception on May 4 around 11:45 (right after the worship service). You'll meet with Pastor Jon and other leaders from our staff and church council. Register to let us know you're coming...or just show up! This is a party you're allowed to crash.

If you'd prefer a virtual encounter, you can drop us a line 24/7 using the online connection card.
