Today I Lied

Right after I taught on truth.  I told my son an untruth.  The very moment I said it I believed it, so maybe it doesn’t count as a lie.  It was a few minutes later I realized I was so very wrong.

We were riding in the car discussing football practice.  I said to my son, “football is the greatest team sport there is.”  I described how one guy is never enough.  We discussed how one player sometimes gets the glory or the blame – but every play requires 11 (and for the Hawks…12).

Fast forward an hour later and it hits me how wrong I was.  The greatest team sport on the planet is the church!  Not football, not baseball, not soccer, but the church!

I thought of the seven people baptized yesterday.  I thought of their elaborate stories.  Their stories involved praying parents, warm handshakes, listening friends, faithful co-workers, a timely invitation, the right song, genuine smiles, transparent stories, a sign on the road…. a team.

Discovery is one of the very rare places where 1+1=3.  As a team, we are far greater than the sum of each individual part.

This is the greatest team sport in history!

God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. – Colossians 1:27
