Want to Make Today Different?

I know it’s Friday.  It’s the last few hours of the week and Saturday – freedom is almost here. Sadly, for most of us Friday is a “grin and bear it day.”  What if it could be different? What if today could be the start of something new? I am convinced that God has give three simple tools to transform dismal days into monumental events. Prayer. Play. Pursuit.

PRAYER: The breath of heaven filling our lungs.
PLAY: Where salt transforms and light pierces darkness.
PURSUIT: Initiative that transforms lives.
Pursuit changes lives. My life has been transformed by the pursuit of people. A dear college friend knocked on my door every morning for a semester – refusing to give up on me. A leader kept believing in me even when I gave them consistent reason not to. A pastor saw my hurt and initiated. Friends have called, sent notes, and taken the kids for the weekend. Throughout my life God has prompted people to not only refuse to give up when they should have — but, to pursue me! I stand here today as a product of gritty pursuit.
Now it’s my turn. Today is our turn. Let’s pursue.  This is our city, our neighborhood, our family, and our church. Let’s refuse to sit on the sideline while people struggle. Instead let’s pursue the new person, the hurting, the broken, the different, the hard, the challenging, the ones … just like me!
Let’s make today different.

Luke 15

8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
